THE RECTOR REMEMBERS FR TERRENCE CREECH CSsR. RIP

1

Dear Friends,

The Redemptorists of the London Province have lost a dear confrère in Fr Terry Creech who died on Tuesday November 19 2019. He will be buried from St Mary’s Clapham on December 9th following the 12:30 Mass. May he rest in peace. I would love to share a few thoughts.

I had the privilege of living with Fr Terry Creech, a fellow Redemptorist, for seven years here at St Clement’s in Chawton, the house of the Redemptorist community attached to our publications. After  a busy and dedicated career as a parish missioner, Fr Terry ministered in Lourdes for 18 years, first as director of HCPT and then as an English-speaking confessor for six months each year. It was his joy and special ministry. He spent hours in the confessional at the Lourdes shrine every day, listening to secret stories and whispered regrets and wretched mistakes, and was regarded as a wonderful confessor by so many pilgrims. Fr Terry had time for everyone. He was an attentive ear and a gentle voice, responding to everything he heard with sympathy and understanding. He enshrined in his listening and his response the mercy of an all-loving Redeemer.

Important step toward the future beatification of

Servant of God Ján Mastiliak CSsR

(Michalovce, Slovakia) The diocesan phase of the beatification process of the Redemptorist Ján Ivan Mastiliak officially began January 31, 2015. Fr. Ján Ivan Mastiliak was the first Slovak who entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. During the communist regime in Czechoslovakia, he spent more than 15 years in prison for reasons of faith and his religious vocation. After he had regained his freedom, he was ministering in clandestine and for 13 years he was the superior of the Viceprovince of Michalovce.

This hunger for the eternal, this hunger and this hope that we long for, is expressed by Frances Angermayer,

who wrote these words in Kansas City, June 3rd, 1943;

Look, God, I have never spoken to You.
But now -- I want to say, "how do you do."
You see, God, they told me You didn't exist.
And like a fool -- I believed all of this.

WITNESSES OF THE REDEEMER:

In Solidarity for Mission in a Wounded World

Dear Confreres, Sisters, Lay Missionaries and Associates,

As we prepare to celebrate the World Day of Prayer for the Redemptorist Missionary Vocation on November 10, I invite you to prayerfully reflect on these words from Pope Francis:

The mission of being in the heart of the people is not just a part of my life or a badge that I can take off; it is not an ‘extra’ or just another moment in life … I am a mission on this earth; that is the reason why I am here in this world. It follows that every form of pastoral activity, formation and spirituality should be seen in the light of our Christian vocation (Christus Vivit #254).

Although Pope Francis addressed these words especially to young people, I believe that they are also addressed to all of us who have been called to live the Redemptorist Missionary Vocation. This has been at the very heart of our prayer, reflection, discernment and decisions during the Mid-Sexennium Meetings in every Conference. Our missionary vocation is the very core of the restructuring process and our apostolic plans: as “one missionary body” (Const. 2), we are prophetic witnesses of the Redeemer in our wounded world today.

More than ever, we are called to live this vocation in a spirit of profound faith and trust in the presence of Jesus our Redeemer who promised to remain with us always. We encounter his presence with the joy and peace he offers when we encounter in a spirit of solidarity our brothers and sisters most in need.

Called to be saints...

What does it mean to be holy?

Do you hear the call to sanctity in your life?

On the All Saints Feast, the Church celebrates all the saints: canonized or beatified, and the multitude of those who are in heaven enjoying the beatific vision that are only known to God. The saint is not a superhero, but one who takes seriously the words of Jesus and lives it with fidelity and creativity. This feast invites us to reflect on how we realize our baptismal vocation.

Zimbabwe: Four Novices received the Redemptorist habit

(Harare, Zimbabwe) The novitiate for part of the Conference of Africa, currently used by Redemptorist units Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya and Mozambique, is situated on the outskirts of Harare.

Last July the previous group of novices was professed and the new group of four arrived, two from Zimbabwe and two from Kenya.
