Celebrating a Diamond Jubilee...!

60 years ago today (15th August) Fr Francis Dickinson C.Ss.R., knelt in the monastery chapel in Scotland and took his vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience! With his Vow and Oath of Perseverance Fr Dickinson reaches today with as much energy, enthusiasm and passion for the Gospel!

Vivat in Aeternum!

O.Ss.R., Solemn Profession...

Our congratulations go to Sr. Maura O.Ss.R., of our Redemptoristine Monastery in Dublin who recently made her Solemn Profession!

Sr Maura was joined for this historic event by her community, her mother, family, cousins and parishioners.

Sr Gabrielle, the Prioress received Sr Maura’s vows, witnessed by Sr Elizabeth Cotter, Vicar for Religious and delegate for the Archbishop.

Fr Michael Kelleher, C.Ss.R, Provincial of the Redemptorists in Ireland was chief celebrant.  He was joined by Bishop Jim Moriarty and concelebrants.  The deacon was Br Derek Ryan, C.SsR.

The presentation of the insignia of Religious Profession :

The Ring and the Holy Redeemer medal.

The Ring:  Put on Sr Maura’s finger so that God’s blessing for kindness, justice, wisdom, charity, holiness, humility, goodness, meekness and  the fullness of love will be with her, and that she may live in obedience to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The Medal :  The image of the Most Holy Redeemer is received as a reminder of her participation in the infinite love which, from all eternity, unites the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Congratulations Sr Maura O.Ss.R.

Clapham Update...

9th August, 2011

Dear Confreres,

I am sure that many of you are deeply concerned about the current riots taking place in some of the cities of this country.

In particular, Clapham has featured on the news recently. I have just spoken with Fr. Dominic O'Toole, who tells me that the situation is indeed very tense. He went to Clapham Junction this morning to ascertain the state of one of the shops run by the Ace of Clubs, and is happy to report that it was almost the only shop that was not attacked and looted.

This afternoon he has arranged for boarding to be erected on the shop adjoining the Monastery, and informs me that all the local shops are closed and shuttered; the Post Office and banks and likewise closed.

I have asked Fr. Dominic to assure the Clapham community of our concern and prayers at this time. If there is any further information available, I will communicate it to you as soon as I can.

With best wishes,

In Christ the Redeemer,

Ronald J. McAinsh, C.Ss.R.

Provincial Superior

Something for those involved in Youth Ministry!

Scotland's RYM celebrate St. Alphonsus...

(RYM = Redemptorist Youth Ministry)

Fiftheen of our young people in Edinburgh gathered to pray Evening Prayer and to have a pizza to honour St. Alphonsus. They were joined by a Redemptorist from Kenya, Fr Augustine C.Ss.R., and received a message from Fr. Provincial. Messages came in from further afield...

Fr. General sent the following message to our young people who were in Edinburgh to mark the Feast Day.

Just a word to wish you and all the group a very blessed and happy feast of St. Alphonsus our founder! Hope you enjoy evening prayer and pizza! We'll be united in prayer and our common friendship with Alphonsus!

God bless you all - I'd love to be with you in Edinburgh.

In the Redeemer, and the spirit of St. Alphonsus,"

Dear Confreres and Friends,

I am very grateful for the great number of emails and cards which my family and I received from so many of you on the death of my father. We were also very touched by the number of confreres who travelled to the funeral. As you know, my father had enormous affection for the Redemptorists, and I am sure that he is now at peace.

Fr. Richard Reid C.Ss.R., and the Poor Clares in Arkley...

Many months ago Fr Richard received an invitation from the Poor Clares nuns in Arkley, Barnet, to celebrate mass as the community and their friends marked the entry of the Venerable Margaret Sinclair into the monastery. The Venerable Margaret never was in Arkley, but it was here the sisters of her monastery in Notting Hill, London moved in 1970.

We can safely say that this is the National Shrine of the Ven Margaret Sinclair in England!

While St. Patrick's in Edinburgh is the National Shrine of the Ven Margaret Sinclair in Scotland!

There is great affection and friendship between the shrines!
