Friday 02 March 2018 - 1866 - Cure of Father Francis Hall

In February 1866 Fr. Jean Lammens (at the time the Redemptorist Secretary General), visited Bishop Eton., Liverpool  He told them of the miraculous Icon that had been entrusted to the congregation. The community started a Novena for a seriously ill confrere Fr. Francis Hall. At the end of the Novena he seemed worse not better, however, they started a second Novena (all Redemptorists take a vow of perseverance) The following morning Fr. Hall was cured. The date was the 2nd of March 1866

In the archives of Bishop Eton, dated 2nd March 1866, we read, “Today the house of Bishop Eton was filled with joy and gratitude at the miraculous cure of Rev. Fr Hall, through the intercession of the Madonna of Perpetual Succour”

This is believed to be the first cure ascribed to OMPS in ENgland

Sometime towards the end of June that year the following is recorded in the community annals.

“One beautiful summer’s evening towards the end of June, the Fathers were walking in the garden during recreation when a brother came with a private message for the Father Rector. There was something in his look and in the smile which played on Father Rector’s lips as, having received the message, he hurried off towards the house, that betrayed the secret quickly enough to men who were already on the tiptoe of expectation. “The picture has come”, exclaimed all at once.”
