Cardinal Titular of Sant'Alfonso dies...

2nd February 2012

bevilacquacardinal

+Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua, archbishop emeritus of Philadelphia in a line of succession that includes St. John Neumann, C.Ss.R., and titular Cardinal of our Redemptorist mother church in Rome, Sant'Alfonso, passed away last evening.

The community of Sant' Alfonso was informed at noontime. The Rector of the community, Father Luciano Panella, said suffrages for Cardinal Bevilacqua would be celebrated in the near future.

The Redemptorists give thanks to God for His Eminence's titularship and remember with prayers and gratitude the many favors and benefices he bestowed upon the home of the original icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help.

Please remember him in your prayers.

Requiescat in pace.

DIAMOND JUBILEE (60 years)

 Conversion of St. Paul

Jan 2012

Fr Kevin Callaghan C.Ss.R.

It would be reasonable to expect that the theme of this homily would be on today’s feast – the conversion of St. Paul. But I anticipated today’s celebration and preached on St. Paul on Sunday last.

You will be very relieved to know that I do not intend to trawl through my sixty years as a C.Ss.R – although I could make that quite racy and raise a few blushes. Perhaps later we may be given the opportunity to say a few words in another place in that respect.

So I fall back as we Redemptorists do, so often and so effectively in our preaching, on a story. And I am indebted to Tony Gittens when on the very first evening to spoke to us of the importance of LISTENING. For this is a story about listening and not just hearing.

Collecting and Praying for Zimbabwe...

jimmysmalezim2

This is the smiling face of one of our confreres, Fr James Smale C.Ss.R., who preaches and gives appeals to help our mission in Zimbabwe as part of his ministry.

Fr. Jimmy travels around the country, visiting parishes, telling them about the work of our men in Zimbabwe. He has raised tens of thousands of pounds for the mission in Zimbabwe, and he can assure the people in their parishes that every penny will go directly to Africa.

The internet is a wonderful place for Fr. Jimmy to say a huge "THANK YOU" to all who have given so generously in the past.

It also gives the Redemptorist Province a chance to say another huge "THANK YOU" this time to Fr. Jimmy for his commitment and dedication to this work and the confreres in Zimbabwe.

Message from Fr General C.Ss.R...

Rome, Italy
January 16, 2012

MESSAGE FROM SUPERIOR GENERAL MICHAEL BREHL, C.SS.R.

Dear Confreres, Sisters, Associates and friends,

I would like to wish you a blessed New Year filled with the hope, peace and joy which are signs of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and ministry!

In the first two weeks of January, we celebrated the feasts of two great Redemptorist missionaries – St. John Neumann and Blessed Peter Donders. Their lives and their example continue to inspire us in our mission to preach the Gospel ever anew. Through their prayerful intercession, they continue to accompany us as we live our missionary vocation today.
