Vocations Sunday - Pope Francis...

pope francis

Pope Francis says in Evangelii Gaudium:

“wherever there is life, fervor, and a desire to bring Christ to others, genuine vocations will arise. Even in parishes where priests are not particularly committed or joyful, the fraternal life and fervor of the community can awaken in the young a desire to consecrate themselves completely to God and the preaching of the Gospel” (n° 107).

Let us pray for more vocations to the religious life and/or the priesthood.

Please especially for Vocations for the London Province of the Redemptorists.

Formation - London and Dublin...

cssr ossr together

The Formation community of the London province were very blessed recently to be able to visit our counterparts in the Dublin province, for a few days of fraternal fellowship, prayer and recreation. It was a great blessing to be able to stay in the monastery in Dundalk, and visit some of our other monasteries on the ‘emerald isle’, in Belfast and the Esker retreat centre near Galway. We received a warm and generous welcome from all the communities we met, and it was wonderful to see some of the great works that the Redemptorists are performing, from reconciliation in Belfast and marriage preparation in Esker, to the preached Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in Galway Cathedral – the spirit of enthusiasm and joy in the Gospel was infectious!

Report from our Vocations Weekend...

redemptorist window

Br Charles Randall CSsR reports!...

"Last weekend at our community in Clapham we welcomed two young men discerning possible vocations to the religious life. One came from the world of work, the other from his university studies; both had decided to give up a weekend of their lives to see if life as a Redemptorist might be for them. They say a good appetite is a sign of a good vocation, so of course, after settling in and giving them a tour of the house, we sat down for supper. Thus they began to get to know us, and we them. After night prayer together in the oratory, and then the dishes (many hands made light work) the discerners were free to retire and prepare for the weekend ahead with some rest.

October 5, 2013

Dear Confreres, Sisters and Friends:

Greetings from Rome. I would like to remind you that on Saturday, October 5, we celebrate the memory of our confrere, Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, C.Ss.R. He was a gifted spiritual guide and confessor, a gentle and wise formator, and a zealous pastor and preacher. During this year of the Redemptorist Missionary Vocation, may his example and prayers inspire all of us to follow the Redeemer more closely.

Your brother in the Redeemer,
Michael Brehl, C.Ss.R.

First Class Student...

Congratulations to one of our professed students for success in his studies. Br. Peter Morris was awarded First Class Honours for the Bachelor of Divinity programme at Heythrop College, the highest award given for the course.

I'm very relieved to have completed the work for the qualification and I am grateful for being awarded so generously. I have enjoyed my time at Heythrop very well. The academic atmosphere of the college has been refreshing, combining good attention to magisterial teaching – especially to the documents of the Second Vatican Council – with rigorous academic enquiry.

I also had the chance to mix with students from other religious orders and seminarians from the local seminary, Allen Hall. Those encounters were a real gift to me.

Br. Peter Morris C.Ss.R

Br Peter is set to begin his pastoral experience in Zimbabwe in September. Having spent nine years of his life studying at university level, he looks forward to having a break from the books.

Well done, Br Peter!

Conference of Redemptorists in Europe...

Formators from all of Europe met in Cracow...

For the first time in our history the formators (Vocations Directors, Postulant Directors, Novice Masters, Prefects of Students) from all the units of our Congregation in southern and northern Europe met for a very successful and enjoyable meeting. The group assembled from Dublin to Lviv and from Southern Italy to Scotland and were about 35 confreres. The youngest father was 29 and the oldest was 75 years. So there was much energy and much wisdom!
