A New Way to Communicate...

A chance encounter at a conference has led the Redemptorist Youth Ministry down an unexpected path – one which has led to discovery and friendship.

embrace2017

Last November, Anita and I decided to book a stall at Embrace, the Catholic conference for 14-25 year olds. We were hoping to meet lots of people aged 18 and over to get them involved in our young adult group. It was a great day – but most of the people we talked to were in the 14-16 age group, so not really appropriate for our group. Towards the end of the day a young man approached and began looking through the materials at our stall. We began to engage him in conversation, but it soon became clear that he could not hear us. Cal was deaf. We got by, him lipreading, us trying our best with our very very limited knowledge of sign language – and he agreed to come along to one of our young adult group evenings.

RYM - Christmas Meal 2018 for those who are alone

It may seem a long way off to Christmas, but if you are trying to organise a community event on that day a lot of planning is needed.  In this article are Youth Minister Natasha explains the thinking about a meal to be held this Christmas in Liverpool, and talks about an upcoming fundraiser to support this aim. This article was first published in the March 2018 edition of Bishop Eton's in house magazine BE Alive.

Christmas day can be difficult for a lot of people - squabbling families, getting in to debt, or not being able to find that perfect outfit for the Christmas party. For some people, however, the greatest difficulty around the most wonderful time of the year can be how utterly lonely that one day can be.

 ConfessionRYM

The Sacrament of Confession is probably the most misunderstood of all the sacraments. It is something which, for many, is a source of apprehension, fear, and in some cases, terror. The Redemptorist Young Adult group recently had an enlightening talk from Mgr Peter Fleetwood about this sacrament, and we put to rest some of the myths and mysteries surrounding it.

RYM Young Adult Homeless Mission

We’ve been wanting to do a homeless mission since we first started planning events for the

young adult group, so we were really excited to liaise with Helen the lay chaplain at Hope, who had some experience of doing this in Liverpool.

We decided to do a joint mission with Hope University Cath. Soc. and it worked brilliantly !

RYM - ADVENT PRAYER CALENDAR

Anita and Natasha thought that during Advent they could do an Advent calendar of prayer intentions. They are posting the intentions on their facebook page Natasha Anita RYM - they are always happy to welcome new friends.

Below are the prayer intentions to date

19th December

Today's Advent prayer intention is for those who have not experienced God's love. So often, we pray for the poor (and rightly so!) but often it is those who are comfortable, who are missing something so vital in their lives. We pray for those in our society who are not materially needy, but who are searching for something with more meaning in their lives

18th December

Today's prayer intention is for our Redemptorist parishes throughout the world!
