THE RECTOR REMEMBERS FR TERRENCE CREECH CSsR. RIP

1

Dear Friends,

The Redemptorists of the London Province have lost a dear confrère in Fr Terry Creech who died on Tuesday November 19 2019. He will be buried from St Mary’s Clapham on December 9th following the 12:30 Mass. May he rest in peace. I would love to share a few thoughts.

I had the privilege of living with Fr Terry Creech, a fellow Redemptorist, for seven years here at St Clement’s in Chawton, the house of the Redemptorist community attached to our publications. After  a busy and dedicated career as a parish missioner, Fr Terry ministered in Lourdes for 18 years, first as director of HCPT and then as an English-speaking confessor for six months each year. It was his joy and special ministry. He spent hours in the confessional at the Lourdes shrine every day, listening to secret stories and whispered regrets and wretched mistakes, and was regarded as a wonderful confessor by so many pilgrims. Fr Terry had time for everyone. He was an attentive ear and a gentle voice, responding to everything he heard with sympathy and understanding. He enshrined in his listening and his response the mercy of an all-loving Redeemer.

These lines were found in the possession of numerous boys who fell on the battlefields of WWII.

This hunger for the eternal, this hunger and this hope that we long for, is expressed by Frances Angermayer,

who wrote these words in Kansas City, June 3rd, 1943;

Look, God, I have never spoken to You.
But now -- I want to say, "how do you do."
You see, God, they told me You didn't exist.
And like a fool -- I believed all of this.

Called to be saints...

What does it mean to be holy?

Do you hear the call to sanctity in your life?

On the All Saints Feast, the Church celebrates all the saints: canonized or beatified, and the multitude of those who are in heaven enjoying the beatific vision that are only known to God. The saint is not a superhero, but one who takes seriously the words of Jesus and lives it with fidelity and creativity. This feast invites us to reflect on how we realize our baptismal vocation.

City mission in Kaunas...

(Kaunas, Lithuania) The Archdiocese of Kaunas is the second largest diocese in Lithuania. Just over a year ago two Redemptorists from Slovakia, Frs. Rastislav Dluhý and Peter Hertel began a new missionary initiative at the request of the Archbishop.

What they have been able to achieve is utterly amazing. And this includes the organisation of a citywide Mission which took place in the second week of October (10-13) in the cathedral. The mission involved many local groups of committed Catholics, lay missionaries from Portugal, non-Catholic musicians from England, a group of talented lay missionaries from Slovakia, and Fr. Ronnie McAinsh a Redemptorist from Scotland.

International meeting of the Redemptorist Brothers in Slovakia...
